Creating a Shared Wellbeing Language
OVERVIEW
A collaborative process that helped a team build clarity, alignment, and confidence in their wellbeing approach.
PROJECT
Creating a Shared Wellbeing Language
COMMUNITY
A multidisciplinary team seeking to align their wellbeing language and strengthen collaboration across programs.
A multidisciplinary team was delivering wellbeing support across different programs, but each group used different terms, tools, and approaches.
This created confusion, duplication, and inconsistent experiences for the people they supported.
The organisation wanted to:
- build a shared understanding of wellbeing
- align their language and practices
- strengthen collaboration across teams
- improve confidence and clarity
This created the foundation for an RBW‑aligned process.

Our Approach
We used a respectful, collaborative method that centred the voices of staff and the people they support.
Step 1 — Understanding Current Language
We listened to staff describe how they talk about wellbeing, support, and connection.
Step 2 — Mapping Terms and Practices
We created a clear map of the different words, tools, and approaches used across programs.
Step 3 — Identifying Gaps and Misalignments
Together, we explored where language was strong, where it was unclear, and where it created barriers.
Step 4 — Co‑Designing a Shared Language
We facilitated workshops to co‑design a simple, human‑centred wellbeing language that everyone could use.
Step 5 — Embedding the Language in Practice
We supported the team to integrate the new language into daily routines, documentation, and conversations.

What We Delivered
The organisation received:
- a wellbeing language map
- a shared glossary of key terms
- a co‑designed wellbeing language framework
- staff workshops and alignment sessions
- recommendations for embedding the language in practice

Impact
The initiative led to meaningful improvements:
- clearer communication across teamsstronger collaboration
- more consistent wellbeing practices
- increased staff confidence

This work continues to support the organisation’s culture and relationships.
